2026 Narcotics Prescriber Course

This one-hour course helps North Carolina dentists meet the required annual CE for prescribing controlled substances. In response to the ongoing opioid crisis, this training provides practical guidance on safe, responsible prescribing and effective pain management alternatives.

Participants will gain the knowledge needed to reduce risk, improve patient outcomes, and stay compliant with state regulations.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the mechanism and effects of opioid medications

  • Implement strategies to manage postoperative pain without opioids

  • Apply best practices for safe opioid prescribing in acute pain

  • Identify patients at risk for substance use disorder

  • Counsel patients on risks, side effects, storage, and disposal

  • Review appropriate prescription quantities and case-based scenarios

  • Understand current regulations for controlled substance prescribing
